How Much Does Barber School Cost? (Texas, 2026)

The short answer

Barber school in Texas typically runs between roughly $8,000 and $20,000 all-in, depending on the school, the program length and what the tuition actually covers. That range is wide because schools quote very different things: some publish tuition only, others fold in the kit, books, exam fees and state application costs.

The honest advice is to stop comparing headline numbers and start comparing what is included.

What makes up the cost

Tuition. The largest line. A Texas Class A Barber program is 1,000 hours, and tuition is priced against that.

Your kit. Clippers, trimmers, shears, razors, capes and a mannequin. Some schools include it; some sell it to you separately at a markup. Ask which.

Books and supplies. Usually a few hundred dollars.

State exam and licence fees. Paid to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, not the school. Budget for the written and practical exams plus the licence application.

Living costs. The one nobody quotes. A 1,000-hour program is close to a full-time commitment, so be realistic about what you can earn while enrolled.

What it costs at Invictus

We publish our numbers rather than making you call for them. See program cost and fees for the current figures, broken out line by line.

What you probably will not pay

Most students do not pay the sticker price. Invictus participates in federal financial aid programs, so students who qualify can cover a substantial share of tuition with grants and loans rather than cash. We also work with veterans using education benefits, and we run scholarship programs.

The fastest way to find out your real number is the net price calculator – it estimates your cost after aid, not before it.

Is it worth it?

Barbering is one of the few trades where you can train in about a year, hold a licence that is portable across Texas, and control your own income by renting or owning a chair. Compared with a four-year degree, the cost of entry is low and the time to earning is short. That is the actual calculation – not the tuition figure in isolation.
